Day 8 - No School Today!

I chose to not have school today since my son was not feeling well. He has bad allergies and went to bed yesterday in the middle of the afternoon. He only goes to bed like that when he isn't feeling well. He is doing better today, but I wanted to give him an extra day to rest.

Lap Book Show And Tell Giveaway

My birthday is coming up, and I wanted to give this year instead of receive!
So.....since I have had so much fun with these little lap books, I wanted to share!

I am giving away a cool set of lap book supplies to get you through at least half the year. In my case it might only last a few months since we are making so many!! I have included the file folders, fun scrapbook paper, punch out letters, stickers, envelopes, and a few more surprise goodies. ( I will post a picture when I can get my camera to chat with my computer!)

Rules: All you have to do is write a post on your blog and share pictures of one or more of the lap books you (your child) have made. Also, write a little blurb about this giveaway so others have a chance to receive! You can use the giveaway photo if you like. Then come back and leave a comment with your link at the bottom of this post.

The giveaway will be open for 1 week. It starts today 8/15 and will end Wednesday 8/22.....my birthday! I will announce the winner (picked by Random.org) Thursday 8/23.

Happy lap booking!

Day 5

This overwhelming calm came over me today. The stress off homeschooling has lifted! We are doing well. My son understands the schedule and knows what I expect of him. I'm feeling good!

OK...enough about that!!!! Today flew right by. I am thinking the first grade curriculum is too easy. We did the 2nd grade Summer Bridge book with him, and know the 1st grade stuff is finished in minutes. I will be adding to my lesson plans over the weekend!

Day 4

Well, I woke up late today! The funny thing was, after a while I didn't care much! Last year when I woke up late and we had to drive 20 minutes to school, I freaked out! I would be frantic and on the verge of a meltdown to get to school by 8:20! This morning I woke up at 7:40, and for a moment I thought...Oh no I'm late....Ugggghhhhh. Then I thought.....wait a minute......it's ok.....relax.....you don't have to be anywhere.....it's OK!!!!!!!!! I felt this huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Now there is no pressure in the morning! I don't have to scramble every morning to make a sack lunch and drive him to school.
I decided to wake my son up a half hour later today in honor of our new found freedom, and we both schooled in our PJ's!! It was kind of fun!

Day 3

Another easy day. We started at 8:55 and ended at 11:15. I wonder if I'm doing this right!! We worked so hard this summer, that now I believe he is at the 2nd grade level for math and grammar. Handwriting is better...not great...but better! Reading: We started reading a new Clifford book. He had trouble with the big words. We will work more on that Thursday. Grammar/Phonics was easy for him today. We worked on nouns again. Math......I am looking into doing triple lessons each day. It is just so simple for him. He can do the basic addition and subtraction. We will start working on double and ripple digit problems soon. And last but not least we had Social Studies today where we learned about families and made a family tree.

Day 2

Today went by so fast!! I went to his room and said 'Time for school', and he got up and went to his desk! How easy was that!!! We started at 8:50 and finished at 11:15. Handwriting: He is learning that if his handwriting isn't readable, I will make him write it again. Writing is about 20 minutes for him. Reading: He read BGTS again because there were a few words he struggled with yesterday. He read it more fluently today. Grammar/Phonics: He knows most of the 1st grade words, so we will be adding more 2nd grade words to keep it more challenging. Math: The math was too easy today. We will probably do 3 or 4 lessons Wednesday. Science: We started Life Science today and created a lap book on living things.

First Day of First Grade

Today was the first day of first grade. I laid out his shorts and shirt for school, but he chose to wear a clean set of PJ's instead!! We were supposed to start at 9:00 but he wanted to start after breakfast (8:40). So, we breezed through handwriting, reading, and grammar/phonics. I gave him a test for Math to see where his weaknesses are. And we created a lap book for History on Gods Creation. Click here to learn how to make your own creation lap book.
When we finished the set curriculum he decided he wanted to read the state map I purchased. Then my son went to play his computer game! We told him he could play after he finished school every day. What a motivator! He likes to play Zoo Tycoon. He can create his own Zoo from the ground up. It really makes you think about what animals need to live and be happy.

We also started our Virtual Flat Stanley Project. Tamara over at Training Hearts is hosting this. If you have read the book, this is a great project for your young one. To learn more click here.
